Nordic Walking

Status:Active, open to new members
Group email: Nordic Walking group
When: On Friday afternoons
3rd Friday monthly

Nordic Walking was formed out of the thinking that it would benefit the wellbeing of many members not just that of existing walkers. A grant was received from SODC which enabled us to purchase the necessary equipment. Our tutor Anthea Osborn Jones continues to be available when required.

April 2026

April walk was from Christmas Common where we walked through College and Queen’s Wood where we enjoyed bluebells aplenty! A short break was appreciated, courtesy of one of Nature’s large logs!

March 2026

Bledlow walk was very much enjoyed by all in the brilliant sunshine.  Thanks to Janet for leading.

FEBRUARY 2026

A small group braved the very changeable weather for the Feb walk. It was from Towersey Church on the Phoenix Trail, chosen as it was mud free! The sun managed to appear at the end, sadly no photos as Bob Rendle was unable to make it. (pictures below from unspecified sources)

JANUARY 2026

January walk led by Janet Conradi was from Bradenham on National Trust lands passing through scenic woodlands, rolling farmland and historic sites like Bradenham Manor and St Botolph’s Church.  The walk was rounded off at Red Lion café where we enjoyed our delayed Christmas refreshments compliments of u3a!  Next walk will be on 20 Feb - full details nearer the date.

OCTOBER

The October walk was led by Janet Conradi on our tried and tested route up Bledlow. See attached picture.

Next walk will be 21/11 at 2pm and will be from Christmas Common and led by Janet Conradi.  Usual parking on Northend Road just at the junction down from Fox & Hounds pub.

There won't be a walk in December but it is hoped that all will be back to normal for 2026!

June walk was on the Phoenix Trail from Longwick and was led by Janet Conradi who has been a tremendous support during Dorothea's recuperation.

MARCH

March circular walk was led by Janet Lambert and took place from Holy Trinity Church, Bledlow, being in the Chilterns it was as usual undulating and the weather was glorious.  Numbers were down with many taking an early Easter break.

Next walk to be confirmed.

January's walk took place in splendid sunshine with clear blue skies lifting everyone's spirits after all the low cloud and mist of recent weeks.  Bob Rendle extended Yuletide with his kind offer of homemade Christmas cake made by his own fair hands!

Unfortunately due to circumstances outside our control, there will be no walk in February as both Leader and Deputy leader are unavailable due to surgery and holidays. Next walk will be Fri 7/3/25 led by Janet Conradi -  full details to follow.

November 8th

Our November walk was from Christmas Common, starting at Hollandridge Lane, skirting Queen  Wood down steep hill from Watlington Park and then up an equally challenging hill and back to Christmas Common.

As always car sharing is recommended.

Dorothea Dunn is coordinator of this new group.
