Walks Long

Status:Active, open to new members
Group email: Walks Long group
When: Monthly on Tuesday mornings 10:00 am
First Tuesday of the month

Contact: nigelconradi2@gmail.com

The group meets for one walk a month always on the first Tuesday of the month starting at 10.00 am. Our walks are always led by a member of the group and we encourage as many of our members as possible to lead a walk. At present we have 27 members in the group and on average we have around 12 walkers each month. There is no limit on how many walkers can join the walk and new members are always welcome. The walks are between 6 and 9 miles long, with the longer walks tending to be in the summer and sometimes include an extra picnic stop.

The length and description of each walk are detailed in advance so you can choose which walks you would like to join.

Communication with the group is mainly through WhatsApp which allows quick simple messaging and allows for last minutes changes to be efficiently communicated i.e. if a member can’t make the walk or small change in meeting or parking details.

It is a friendly, fun group with the opportunity to see some spectacular scenery and maybe even visit places that you didn’t know existed whilst keeping fit and active.

OUR NEXT WALK

The next walk is on Tuesday, 7th April and is being led by Peter Hetherington.  The walk is 7 miles long and starts at Marlow Railway station, where we catch the 10.00 train to Maidenhead and walk down to the Thames.  We will then follow the Thames path through Cookham and Bourne End upstream back to Marlow.

March 2026

The group has been growing in size over the last year and we now have a very healthy (no pun meant) 41 members.

The March walk, led by Carole Rudston,  was 7.2 miles long starting in Pyrton going to Stoke Talmage on to Clare and back to Pyrton.  The walk provides some great views and was enjoyed by 17 walkers.

The August walk was 6.5 miles starting in Lane End led by Peter Hetherington. It was a scenic circular walk to Cadmore End, Frieth and Fingest and back to lane End and was enjoy by 13 walkers.

The June walk was a 6.95 mile walk from Pyrton led by Janet Conradi.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be a rainy day and after some late dropouts was undertaken by 6 hardy souls.

Everybody enjoyed the walk although some of the excellent views were lost.

The May walk was led by Carole Rudston on Tuesday, 6th May.   The walk started from Blizzards Yard car Park, Chalfont St Giles, HP8 4QA.  The walk was a mixture of open fields, with good views,  and woodland paths.  The walk was 6.5 miles, no stiles and only one gentle hill..  The walk went close by the Chiltern Open Air museum, which could be visited after the walk.

The April walk was a gentle flat 6.8 miles starting from the Half Moon pub, HP23 4PD in Wilstone led by Nigel and Janet Conradi. The circular walk went across country to Lower End where it briefly joins the Grand Union Canal before going around part of the Marswoth and Tringford reservoirs before joining the Aylesbury Outer Ring along the Wendover canal. We then headed back to Wiltstone vis Drayton Beauchamp, Wiltstone reservoir and the Aylesbury arm of the canal. The walk offered some good views and bird spotting opportunities.
