We are a small and friendly group who meet on the 4th Monday of every month in the Chiltern Room at the Village Centre, 10.30am to 12pm.

Our meetings are generally face-to-face with a guest speaker talking about some of the many aspects of Archaeology & Geology. We also encourage group members to participate by telling us their own experiences of the subject with photos and artefacts, and perhaps producing a presentation using the projector in situ in the Village Centre's Chiltern Room.

Archaeology & Geology Group - 2026 Programme

March 23rd - Haydon Bailey, a chalk specialist, returns to give us a talk on a rather different topic "Micropaleontology in Forensic science"!

April 27th - David Pyle, Professor of Earth Sciences from Oxford Uni is back to give us a talk about the volcano in the centre of Santorini in the Greek Islands.

May 18th (3rd Mon due to Bank Holiday) - Colin Oakes will be taking us on an archaeological expedition to Central America to tell us about the Olmecs, the first notable civilization in the region, famous for carving huge stone heads!

June  22nd - TBA – still looking for speakers, but at the very least we'll have a bring and tell discussion or a video.

July 27th - Stephen Low from Wendover u3a Arch group comes back to give us Part 2 of his fascinating Stonehenge talk.

On joining, members will be asked to pay a small annual fee to cover room hire and any speaker’s fees/expenses. We would welcome any new members; experience definitely not a requirement, just a willingness to learn and participate.
